Today's discussion is about: The Prologue, Chapter 1 and Chapter 2

The Prologue

- Looks like Leila is in some serious shit! I wonder if this actually surprises anyone anymore. But this time she's not alone. She and her anonymus vampire friend, who's been fed with too much precious metal are being kidnapped by Hannibal (and Leila thought Vlad was the one "suffering under a delusion from too much role-playing."... ). Anyway, this is clearly a part of a scene from somewhere in the book, so now we can speculate on who is the poor vampire, who's this Hannibal guy and why in earth has Leila been kidnapped this time???

Chapter 1

Interesting, but ominous dream, Leila's abilities are still on their holiday, she's still fireproof and her relationship with our Dark Prince isn't that good either. A short scene with him  reassured me that he still has a dark humour -which I absolutely adore, and he's up to something big. But what??

Chapter 2

- Finally we got a little Gretchen! I don't know when I came to like her, because she annoyed the crap out of me in Once Burned, but she's funny!! Could be a great heroine. Aw man, she could give Ian hell! Would love to see that happen!
- I'm not a fan of love triangles, but I really like this Maximus guy. Just go with him Leila, and leave Vlad to me dammit!
- Speaking of Vlad... How's that he can steal any freaking scene with just one statement??
- This big party surely won't be just a "family reunion". So excited to see what does Vlad planning!!

So, these are my thoughts, now let's see yours!

Fun question:

1.) Do you think Leila's right and acting reasonable or is she just "turned into one of those annoying, clingy girlfriends"?

2.) Would you like to see a love triangle as a conflict in the rest of the series or would you prefer Leila to be  with either Maximus or Vlad?

Don't forget to sign up  <here>  if you'd like to participate and want to win! ;)

Please DO NOT POST SPOILERS! There are some fans who are joining the read-a-long who are reading Twice Tempted for the first time.

In a Heartbeat Blog Tour: Author Interview

I'm super excited to have Teodora Kostova, author of In a Heartbeat here with me today! Continue on to read her answers to my interview questions, and don't forget to follow the tour because you can win some pretty cool stuff ;)

Stella

“I’ve been in and out of hospitals for the past ten months. I’ve had half my liver removed and even though this time the doctors are very optimistic that they’ve removed all of the tumours, they can’t be sure. In another three months they want me here again for a check up. Right now I feel better than I’ve ever felt. I know the damn thing is gone, at least for the moment. Despite that, I can’t make any plans for the future, not yet. I need to go somewhere where nobody knows me, where I can relax and maybe even forget about all this. Where I can meet people who don’t think of me as the girl who lost her father and her brother in a car accident, and who has cancer. I want to have fun, even if it’s for a couple of months.”

When Stella decides to visit her estranged cousin Lisa in Genoa, she has no idea Italy will give her a new reason to live.

Max

“Her gaze locked on a scene so beautiful, the picturesque beach paled in comparison. A lifeguard emerged from the water, his orange trunks stuck to his legs and water dripping all over him. He shook his head to get rid of some of the water in his hair and Stella felt as if everything started developing in slow motion – tiny drops of water slid from his neck down his broad chest and muscular arms, along a weaving tattoo on his right shoulder, and continued downwards towards his chest and washboard stomach, finally getting lost in the waistband of his trunks. A part of another tattoo peeked over his trunks on his left hip, the other part hidden under them. It was a total Baywatch moment.”

Their love is epic. But there are too many things keeping them apart.

“How could you keep this from me, Lisa? If you had told me the first day I met him, I would have avoided him like the plague. Nothing would have happened between us.”

“I kept your secrets, too, Stella.”

Are Max and Stella strong enough to fight not only for their love, but for their lives?

What do you think readers will like about Stella's and Max's story?
The optimism. I know that at times it may seem all doom and gloom – a relationship with an expiration date as Stella would say – but it turns out it’s not. I want to inspire people not to get stuck in their misery if life isn’t turning out as they’ve palnned it. On a lighter note, I think they’ll like the location – Italy is an incredible country and I’m absolutely in love with it.

How did the story for your book come about? I mean, it's really not the usual storyline you see in this genre these days, which is a good thing. What was your inspiration?
I don’t really know! The story hit me like a high-speed train. I was browsing a photo website for inspiration when I came accross the photo that I used for the cover. I bought it on the spot, it was just something about that photo that caught my eye and I had to have it. Then the next day I was listening to this song called ’Run’ by Matt Nathanson and suddenly there were all kinds of scenes and people in my head, kicking and screaming to get out. I just sat down and wrote a few scenes, without any backgraoud or context, and during the next few days I outlined the whole story and all the characters.

What was your absolute favorite scene in the book? Is there any scene you would rewrite if you had the chance?
My favourite scene must be when Max took Stella around Tuscany to look at the houses he wanted to renovate some day – he spoke with such love and inspiration about those ruined buildings and about his future, and he managed to see the old houses turn into something amazing in his mind. I already re-wrote all scenes I wasn’t really happy about, so at the moment there’s nothing I’d change about the book.

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
I’d have to go for ’Run’ by Matt Nathanson as the theme song for the book, since it kind of inspired it. ’Lost in you’ by Three Days Grace would have to be Max’s song and ’Feel’ by Robbie Williams Stella’s.

What’s next for you?
At the moment I’m working on book 2 of the series, which is going to be Beppe and Gia’s story and then book 3 – Lisa and Gino’s. I’m hoping to have them both published by the end of 2013.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
I quoted Oscar Wilde at the beginning of In a Heartbeat, because I think that quote sums up pretty much the whole idea of the book – „To live is the rarest thing in the world, most people exist, that’s all.” Don’t just exsist. Live!

Thank you for taking the time to answering my questions. And congrats on the release of In a Heartbeat!
Thank you for having me, it was a pleasure!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Hi, my name is Teodora and I live in London with my husband Ted and my son Jason. I've been writing ever since I can remember, but it became my full time job in 2010 when I decided that everything else I've tried bores me to death and I have to do what I've always wanted to do, but never had to guts to fully embrace. I've been a journalist, an editor, a personal assistant and an interior designer among other things, but as soon as the novelty of the new, exciting job wears off, I always go back to writing. Being twitchy, impatient, loud and hasty are not qualities that help a writer, because I have to sit alone, preferably still, and write for most of the day, but I absolutely love it. It's the only time that I'm truly at peace and the only thing I can do for more than ten minutes at a time - my son has a bigger attention span than me.
When I'm procrastinating, I like to go to the gym, cook Italian meals (and eat them), read, listen to rock music, watch indie movies and True Blood re-runs. Or, in the worst case scenario, get beaten at every Wii game by a five year old.

Night Demon tour: Guest Post + Giveaway

An Ode to eBooks…

Hi everyone –
Big thanks to Andie for bringing me and Night Demon all the way to Hungary! One of the most fun parts of seeing my books published is meeting international readers and imagining my characters being introduced around the world. Digital books are making world travel for books much easier and making it easier for readers to find their favorite authors.

I’ve been a book lover ever since I could read. Our local library used to have a 3 item limit to check out books, but they gave me a special red card so I had permission to check out 10 items at a time. (I thought I was hot stuff, lemme tell ya!)

I love scanning book covers, reading blurbs, and finding new authors or a new series. But I have a secret to share…

I fell desperately in love with my Kindle! *insert B-movie horror scream*

My Kindle affair started a couple of years ago. My Mom got me a Kindle for my birthday. I was very curious about the “eBook craze”, but I was fairly certain I would only use the Kindle for books that were only available in eBook format.

But once I started reading on it, I fell in love. The type was larger, I read faster, I never lost my place or had to hunt for something to mark my pages, and it was completely hands-free. I think it was the hands-free that ended up winning me over.

Since I write at night, my only reading time is during my lunchtime every day. I never realized what a pain it was to keep my book propped open while trying to eat a sandwich! My Kindle eliminated the crazy contortions needed to keep my elbow pressed against the spine of the book to hold it open while I munched my sandwich. Magic! It lies on the table, with its larger font and I just press one button to flip the page.

I was in love.

But for weeks, I felt like I’d gone to the dark side. My love for my kindle was so strong that I downloaded some books into my Kindle that I already owned in paperback on my TBR pile because I knew I’d never again crack open that paperback and do battle while trying to eat my lunch. It took some time before I was able to hold my head high and tell others that “I love reading on my Kindle!”

My new book Night Demon was released as an eBook only read, and I get so jazzed that people are buying and downloading the eBook that I’m hosting a contest for readers to send me pictures of themselves with Night Demon! You can see some of the photos posted here http://facebook.com/NightSeries (It’s open internationally too!)

So what about you? Do you have an eReader? Do you love it? Let me know… You secret is safe with me!

Lisa

Deep within the Yucatan jungle a demon has awakened...

Gretchen Finch's job would be much easier if she weren't alone in the jungle with a brilliant recluse whose every glance sets her on fire. But the more she focuses on her work, the closer she gets to unlocking the mysteries of a terrible creature - the Night Demon - that threatens the world as she knows it. Though her scientific mind tells her it's impossible, she's beginning to believe the ancient Mayan tales as the sinister jungle comes alive around her.

Lukas Smith has spent hundreds of years searching for answers to his immortal Night Walker nature. As a series of ancient glyphs become clear, he's about to find out more than he'd ever hoped, but the more he learns, the more his fate intertwines with the Night Demon, and the harder it becomes to hide his immortal secret from the beautiful, intelligent Gretchen.

Together, they must find a way to stop the inexplicable violence and mass destruction surging across the earth before the Night Demon destroys more than just mankind.

Jeaniene Frost March 29 Twitter Chat

On March 29th, Jeaniene Frost and her audio book narrator Tavia Gilbert had a Twitter chat where they answered questions tweeted to her by fans. You can read the transcript here or if you want you can scroll through the hashtag #Frostchat to see Jeaniene's/Tavia 's answers to readers' questions.

They were great!

Possible IAN book

Chloé Marino @tacobell83
@Jeaniene_Frost Heard you recently said Ian was finally getting a book. Is that true? :) And @taviagilbert I love your narration

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
I've said "maybe" to an Ian book, tho I do have a heroine in mind if he grows up enough to handle her ;)

I get more requests for an Ian book than any other character who hasn't been written about yet

Narrating and listening Jf audio books

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
@taviagilbert Since people ask me all the time abt writing them, what it's like to narrate certain *ahem* scene.?

Tavia Gilbert @taviagilbert
@Jeaniene_Frost Ah! I enjoy the challenge. All about the breath. Breath is the body language of voice acting, especially when...

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
If I had to "voice out" love scenes, they would all be fade-to-black. Believe it or not, I embarrass easily.

Tavia Gilbert @taviagilbert
Voicing @Jeaniene_Frost's work is a pleasure...the scenes are a blast to narrate!

Sean McManus @SeanMMcManus
@Jeaniene_Frost Do you listen to your audiobooks read by @taviagilbert ? Does it make you look at your books in a different way!?
Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
At first it was too surreal to hear my own words being read back to me. Now I can enjoy it.

Tavia Gilbert @taviagilbert
@Jeaniene_Frost If there were T-shirts, I'd wear one. Actually...a listener made a T for me. "I'm the narrator of chapter 32!"

Favorite Characters & Dream Movie cast

Tavia Gilbert @taviagilbert
@Jeaniene_Frost Do you have favorite characters to write, or do you enjoy them all equally?

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
I'm fickle. Whoever I'm writing at the time is my favorite character.

Rissa @lovingcharmed
@Jeaniene_Frost would u ever consider taking one of ur Cat & Bones's books & make it into a movie?

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
Movies aren't up to me. They're up to Hollywood and so far, Hollywood hasn't come calling for NH or NP books.

Tavia Gilbert @taviagilbert
@Jeaniene_Frost Do you have the movie versions cast in your head? I wonder who might appear as your characters.

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
I don't have actors mentally picked out for my characters, if Hollywood ever came calling (they haven't yet :)).

(corrected later) Wait, exception: Oded Fehr (as Antoine in Deuce Bigalo) has always been my version of Mencheres.

Tavia Gilbert @taviagilbert
@Jeaniene_Frost Hollywood, like Italy, doesn't know what it's missing! What/who is the next book? Can you share?

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
I'm writing Up from the Grave, Cat & Bones #7, right now. Due out very end of 2013, I believe.

Keep up the IAN Love

Katarina Lima @katharyna_linda
@Jeaniene_Frost I'm sure if you have a book about Ian fai be perfect. I rooting for you to write about Ian.

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
Maybe one day. Ian's gotten closer to where he can be whipped into hero/anti-hero material.

once burned Italian rigths

Selly @SellyMoon
Hi Jeaniene! I'm italian and I'd like to know if Once Burned and Twice Tempted will be released soon in Italy!

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
I'm sorry to say that Italy hasn't purchased either title yet. I hope they do!

Erika Tsang @ErikaTsang
Italian rights were sold for ONCE BURNED, though I don't know their pub sched.

ode to vlad

Missy Robinson @mrobinson12
@Jeaniene_Frost finished Twice Tempted and l I LOVED it! Your Vlad is the best Vlad character out there in any series ever!!

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
Thank you! Vlad is such a complicated, fascinating, maddening character to write, but I love it.

heroines vs. author

Rachel Elizabeth @Rachel498
@Jeaniene_Frost Do you think you have more in common with Cat or Leila? I love them both!

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
Probably more in common w/Leila. She can kill people, but she doesn't like to. Cat's a little more bloodthirsty ;)

Writing method

Tavia Gilbert @taviagilbert
@Jeaniene_Frost Do you map out your books before you write, or discover the plot as you go along?

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
I do light outlines. Like Mapquest directions: I know where I'm going, but not what I'll see along the way

narrating method and some tim roth

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
@taviagilbert How do you prep to narrate? Do you read the whole book first, or act out as you go along?

Tavia Gilbert @taviagilbert
@Jeaniene_Frost I ALWAYS all read 1st, making notes about anything that contributes to the voice, especially.

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
@taviagilbert Were you always a natural mimic, or did you have to train yourself to want to do different voices/accents/etc?

Tavia Gilbert @taviagilbert
@Jeaniene_Frost Training for 4 years as an actor "set the stage" for dialect work. I definitely have to work at it. I think my Bones voice was influenced a little bit by Tim Roth, who I adore. He's oddly sexy.

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
Ha, hubby and I are both Tim Roth fans!

classic character inspirations

Jackie Spade @JackieSpade
@Jeaniene_Frost love your use of classic characters. What first inspired you to include Marie Laveau, Vlad, etc?

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
History is one of my biggest inspirations & since I write about vampires, I can transport people forward to our time

Ian + justina = (IM)Possible romance?

Selly @SellyMoon
Ian & Justina have a feeling... is only my impression?

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
Ian would sleep w/Justina (or anyone else who holds still long enough) but I don't see them together.

Mikky O. @Mikky_Mihaela
Ian and Justina?? Really?? I'm LMAO right now :))))

funniest characters

marilyn maldonado @bm2526
@Jeaniene_Frost Which of your male characters do you think has the best sense of humor or sarcasm?

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
Sarcasm? Vlad. Humor? Bones.

will ian ever grow up?

elizabeth ziko @elizabethziko
@Jeaniene_Frost Dont ever let Ian grow up, love him the way he is {wink,wink}

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
Ian grown up would still be *Ian.* There's no taking that out of him. I'd pity @taviagilbert for narrating THAT.

deleting scenes

Tavia Gilbert @taviagilbert
@Jeaniene_Frost Do you ever get sidetracked, and realize you're writing another book that you have to cut & save for a spin off?

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
I've cut out sections that turned into deleted scenes for readers. Or a short story, like One for the Money.

family reactions to the naughty scenes

Jessica Sapp @JessicaSapp3
@Jeaniene_Frost What was your mom's first reaction to reading one of your love scenes that you are so great at writing?

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
I tell myself that my parents do NOT read those scenes. That's how I sleep at night :)

Tavia Gilbert @taviagilbert
@Jeaniene_Frost I won't let my sweet, innocent mama listen to Jeaniene's books. Haha!

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
Good :). It scars me that my 86-yr-old great-uncle reads them. His comment? "Salty!"

most desired powers

Anarchia @Kaggyn
@Jeaniene_Frost If you could have vampire powers, which ones do you like to have?

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
Ability to heal, fly, & super strength.

Tavia Gilbert @taviagilbert
@Jeaniene_Frost I'd shape-shift & teleport. And I love Leila's ability to intuit & understand truth by touching objects.

Anarchia @Kaggyn
@Jeaniene_Frost @taviagilbert Fly!!! ... and a radar to find ian (exists?)

authors for authors

Tavia Gilbert @taviagilbert
@Jeaniene_Frost Are you friends with other paranormal writers? Do you have occasion to talk and support each other?

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
For authors, my two regular critiquers are @melissa_marr & @ilona_andrews . Other critique reader is @syd_gill. I'm very lucky. They all make me a much better writer (as does editor @ErikaTsang , of course).

Tavia Gilbert @taviagilbert
@Jeaniene_Frost I've met @ilona_andrews' narrator, Renee Raudman, several times. She's awesome!

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
@taviagilbert Are audio narrators like authors and have "critique partners" w/other narrators on your performances?

Tavia Gilbert @taviagilbert
@Jeaniene_Frost We don't critique each other, but we might help each other figure out the best way to do something.

what's coming?

Rachel Elizabeth @Rachel498
@Jeaniene_Frost So you're finishing Up From the Grave, right? Then do you go on to the 3rd Vlad and Leila book?

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
My current writing schedule is Up from the Grave, book in new Realmwalker series, & then Vlad & Leila 3. Busy, busy!

angel vs spike, bill vs eric

Kristy Barner @Topcat712
@Jeaniene_Frost An ever-pressing question that the world just HAS to know... Angel or Spike? (also, Bill or Eric?)

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
Angel and Eric.

twice temped and vlad loving

Missy Robinson @mrobinson12
@Jeaniene_Frost finished Twice Tempted and l I LOVED it! Your Vlad is the best Vlad character out there in any series ever!!

Jeaniene Frost @Jeaniene_Frost
Thank you! Vlad is such a complicated, fascinating, maddening character to write, but I love it.

So, I hope I haven't missed anything important and you, who couldn't be there still enjoyed this. :)
