ARC Review ~ Genesis Queen by Gracen Miller

I can fairly say that I am one of the biggest fans of the series out there. And waiting for Genesis Queen was the worst kind of torture I had ever experienced. Those who say lucky me probably never read these books.  It was kind of a bittersweet moment, because even though this answers most of our questions, this is also the last installment of Madison, Micah and Nix's journey. And that's sad. So, after NINE months the wait is OVER, because on december 18th, the spectacular, amazing RTH crew will be back for the Epic showdown! The question is...will it live up the expectations?

Title: Genesis Queen

Series: Road To Hell (Book 3)
Publisher: Decadent Publishing
Publish Date: December 18th 2012

****First two books in the series, Pandora's Box and Hell's Phoenix, are MUST reads or you will be terribly confused!!!!****
Victory is hollow when fate maneuvers one as a pawn.

Madison’s mission is complete. Nix is rescued from Hell and her son safe from his dark destiny. But as she rests in the safe harbor of Nix’s love, her demonic husband warns of a murderous plot. Can she trust that it’s the truth and not another scheme to claim her for Hell’s throne?

Sometimes internal conflict can house our biggest demons.

With allies divided and prophecy heralding defeat, Madison gambles on Micah’s tenuous honor to keep their son protected. Torn between her heart’s desires and her dark requirements, Madison worries her hellish fate cannot be avoided. When betrayal comes from an unlikely direction, all their futures may be damned. In the darkest hour of Madison’s life, an undeniable providence will transpire. Who can she trust? And how far will she fall to defeat her foes?

Amid the rubble of defeat, will Hell’s Genesis Queen dawn?

Well, I can't speak for the other readers, but I tell you what I thought. The story picks up where Hell's Phoenix left off. Madison in Hell surrounded by the Kings of Hell. Don't panic if you don't remember the events happened in PB or HP, because there's a pretty good summary at the beginning of the book.

In Pandora's Box, everything happened in the Human realm, while in Hell's Phoenix we got a glimpse of Hell too. Now, we're back on Earth... most of the time. And someone or something is coming for Micah's family and won't stop until they're as good as dead. They're only chance to survive the attack is accepting Micah's help. And that creates a pretty fucked-up situation. Everyone in one house. A succubus, dragon, a Zennyo Ryuo, the Ark of Heaven, a handful of Sherlocks and a King of Hell (sometimes two). They're all together. In the same house. To protect Madison, Amos and their loved ones. Man, how interesting and fun this could be. Or more like, could have been. Because it rarely was. Yes, this caused my biggest problem. I thought this will be dangerous, interesting and will create a turn of unpredictable events that are pretty fun to witness. Sometimes it was interesting and fun, they had moments.

But most of the time it lead to only one thing. Sex scenes. I love sex scenes, that's why I'm reading adult books (okay, that and because the character are much less annoying than in the YA books). But -for me- this was too much. I get that Madison is a succubus, the most powerful of them all and I also get, that Nix is a sex god and hot as hell and everything, even I would jump on him, but she does it every freaking time she has something to deal with. No, no, NO! That is NOT the strong Madison, this is whiny Madison. Maybe I'm biased, 'cause I don't like Nix very much and I'm totally Team Micah, or it is just because I've read so many erotic books these days, I don't know, but I felt that the too much bed acrobatics sucked the life out of the half of the book. And I wanted to slap a little common sense into Madison's stubborn ass, but that lasted pretty much until near the end of the book. Especially when she ran out of Micah's touch to Nix's bed. *shaked head*.

Anyway, the book is divided into two parts. The first part was a bit boring and felt dragged because of the things i mentioned above. At least the scenes from Madison's point of view. It's always a good move to write  some scenes from the other characters pov. In Genesis Queen this move was a saver. The things we learned from Zen's, Micah or even Elias's pov really saved the book. Those and the ending scene of the first part. That was something brilliant and magical, even though it was probably the saddest moment for me in the entire series. Scratch that, it was definitely the saddest moment I've ever read. The dramatic music I listened to at the time didn't help either (you can find it at the end of this post).

Now, Part Two overall was better, but still not what I hoped for. Really Madison annoyed the hell out of me, but there was a good amount of interesting stuff happening along with a bunch of new infos about some characters and the backstory of the Kings' fall. But something was still missing. Maybe a little Angel fight, I don't know. We get the drama at the end of part one and only a little bit of action. A one, huge battle between Madison, her A-Team and angels, demons or whatever would have been epic. Unfortunately I didn't get that. Anyway as Amos in the role of a prophet predicted, they still had to deal with a betrayal. And the question, will Madison accept her place in Hell as the Genesis Queen, and will she choose Micah or Nix remains. You have to read the book to find out ;)

In my opinion, the ending was perfect, even though I would have end it in a total different way (killing of Mads and Nix, and get Micah for myself). The thing I loved the most is the character bonding. New allies forged, friendships were tested and families' trust challenged.

One more thing... The Epilogue was the 2nd best part of the book! LOVED LOVED LOVED it! I hope we'll meet the newest members of the RTH crew in Zen's book :)

Let's talk about the characters:

Madison and Nix were the two characters who annoyed the crap out of me. We all know Mads is stubborn, and that was a good thing in the series so far, but this went beyond stubborn. This was unnecessary whining. And I can't believe that she's THAT naive. Nix is, well Nix. It's not a secret that I never liked him. He has his moments and i give him credit for it, but still not convinced me.

Micah. Is there anyone who still hates him after reading this?? Because that would be impossible. If you missed the peek into his soul in HP, don't worry just wait, you will see it here. I hate that I can't say a bad thing about him. He loves, He cares, he proves, he waits - this man has almost infinite patience-I swear I have less than he has. He's the brain. I loved when he put Madison on her place haha.

Zen. Zenny. I love him more than before. We learned a few new things about him too and I can't wait for his book. I think he's the best character in the series.
Kur got a few lines too, and he's a real womanizer. I like him, and he had a little surprise too about the dragons.

I LOVE ELIAS! I'm mad, I know, but he ALWAYS makes things more interesting. In GQ he has a really important role, but is it "good -compering to how good could be anything that Elias does - or bad??

OVERALL: I liked it, but it wasn't as good as I wanted from the big showdown. Not my favorite in the series, but the new information and the few heartbreaking moments would worth the reading even if this wouldn't be the end of Madison's journey. As it is, Genesis Queen is a MUST READ. And I still LOVE these characters and the whole series. And give me Zen's book NOW!!
