Review ~ Reaver by Larissa Ione

"We’re the most fucked-up, star-crossed lovers in history.
So let’s not play nice."

WARRIOR OF HEAVEN

Reaver is an angel with a past, a record, and a less-than-heavenly attitude. Powerful enough to fight alongside the fiercest battle angels-and crazy enough to risk his wings on a one-way mission to hell-he's agreed to go where no angel has ever gone before . . . to steal the most seductive and dangerous prize of Satan himself.

ANGEL OF HELL

Harvester is one of the Fallen, a once-heroic angel who sacrificed her wings to work as an undercover agent in hell. But now her cover has been blown, and she's doomed to an eternity of agonizing torture. Even if Reaver can snatch her away from Satan's lair, even if they can fight their way out of the underworld's darkest depths, there is one thing Harvester can never escape-her newfound thirst for an angel's blood . . .

After the big disappointment what Rogue Rider was for me, I was expecting a huge comeback with Reaver. He had that kind of storyline that could easily live up - with one book - to the overall story of the series. Up to this point Lethal Rider was my absolute favorite because of the characters, even though Immortal Rider was the best when it comes to twists and adventure. Reaver HAS the whole package.

I love Harvester because she's sassy, smart, kick-ass but also vulnerable, but still can be a bitch and a hero at the same time. I love these kind of characters who are not just plain white or black, good or evil. Yes I hated her in the first two books, like everyone else did, but  she was also entertaining so I kinda liked her before, but boy. I just simply adore her now.

As for Reaver... he's brilliant. It's amazing how loosing his memory and wings changed him. That was probably the best thing that could have happened to him. The old Reaver, the one who slept with Lillith was a jerk. But this new one, he's a true hero. He's selfish, kind and a total badass! And noone can resist his sarcastic humor.

So why is this book so awesome? First, because It has kind of a cat-mouse game vibe to it. The dynamics between Reaver and Harvester is fascinating. The energy bouncing around like a pin ball when these two converse, the way they challenge and still support each other is truly exceptional. Second, it's eventful. There's always something happening. For half of the book we're in Hell watching Harvester and Reaver fight their way to out of there. Plus thanks to the POV changes, sometimes we get a peek into others' heads, such as Satan or Revenant (the new evil watcher), or the Angels (those sons of bitches!). But the journey doesn't end when our two lovebirds are out of Satan's territory. Hell no. There are a bunch of complications and betrayals they have to face with before they can get their happy ending. If they ever get it. And the third reason.... the twists!! Holy missing relatives! They blew my expectations out of the water!

There are so many emotions (love, hate, blind rage, sympathy, lust, surprise, excitement, etc) in this book and it brings out so many of the reader's it's unbelievable.
Larissa delivered on all accounts…

Can't wait for Azagoth and more Revenant - I hate when authors make me love character I hated before, and then make me wait, ugh!!

Favorite character(s): Reaver, Harvester, Revenant, Sem brothers, Tavin (hope he gets a book too!!)
Favorite scene(s): Oh, this is HARD! My favorite scene is sad as hell, but beautifully wrote, without being too spoilery, it's when Harvester gets an upgrade.
Favorite quote(s):

“Fine,” he said. “You’re right. We’re not normal. We’re the most fucked-up, star-crossed lovers in history. So let’s not play nice.”
"She, more than any angel in history, had shaped the future of all the realms.
Harvester was a fallen angel. And a fallen hero."
Wraith beamed. “So,” he said, “you really think having archangels string you up by your halo is worth saving this Harvester chick?”
(...)“She saved the world.”
Wraith shrugged. “So did I, but I don’t see you offering up your holy ass to save me.”
“Are you suffering unspeakable horrors at the hands of Satan?”
“No,” Wraith said, “but sometimes I have to eat hospital cafeteria food.”
Reaver sighed. Wraith was a hundred-year-old child.
