Best of 2012

I haven't read as much as I planned this year, and most of them weren't new releases either, so I had a pretty short - around 40 books - list from where I could choose. But I doubt the outcome would have been so different anyway :)

So let's see who/which book gets "best of 2012" award!

BEST BOOK

Iced (Fever #6)
Karen Marie Moning

We got a lots of good new releases this year, so I wanted to choose the one that had the biggest impact on me. The one that didn't let me rest until weeks after I finished it. The biggest surprise for me. The one that really deserves the "EPIC" label for numerous reasons. The best out of the bests. I didn't have to think too long to figure out which book I will choose...
TEAM DANI!!

BEST NEW-TO-ME BOOK

This category is about the books that released before 2012, but I just now had the chance to read it. There were some good stuff and bad stuff too. I love this series and I'm so glad I started it, even though I always liked to watch sci-fi, but not read it. It's funny, but also heartbreaking, it's soo realistic that it's almost frightening. People could learn from this so much. Loveable characters, beautiful romances, and a good amount of action scenes. I think this book is the second best in the series!

BEST DEBUTE SERIES

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass #1)
Sarah J. Maas

There was a good amount of new series starting this year, spin-offs don't count now. I choose the one that was refreshing for me, that reached a high standard within its own category, and it's damn rare, considering I'm not fan of YA books.

BEST INSTALLMENT IN A SERIES

Lethal Rider (Lords of Deliverance #3)
Larissa Ione

Many of my favorite series had a new release this year, so fortunately I had a good list to choose from. Probably many of you know that one of my MUST-BUY series is the Lords of Deliverance by Larissa Ione along with her Demonica series, and up until Rogue Rider, Larissa was the only author who never disappointed me, not even a little. Lethal Rider won with a K.O.

FAVORITE HEROINE

Dani O'Malley

Dani was the biggest surprise this year. In Mac's book I hated her sooo much I can't even tell you with words. But in Iced, she made me laugh so hard I couldn't stop it for several minutes and pages after her comment. However, she's one of the few most inspiring heroines out there. In spite of her young age, her views of life are really food for thought. Dani is kick-ass, everybody knows how tough and fierce she is. Seeing a good dose of her life makes the reader love her more. She had to grow up fast and that wasn't easy. Now she does her best to protect HER city and her people from the Fae. And she CAN carry the book on her own. Even if there weren't Ryo or Christian or any of the nine or any man, her book would be still fine!

FAVORITE HERO

Ryodan

I swear I don't want to turn this post into a best-of-ICED post, but I can't help how I feel, and also can't help that Karen wrote this awesomeness (THANK GOD!!). I LOVE this man, beast whatever. I wasn't really interested in him before, but boy, he changed it! I love his coldness, his (sick) sense of humour, and that he actually cares for Dani, but it doesn't change him. Anyway, Ryodan and Dani together is PRICELESS!!

BEST VILLAIN

Pestilence
Unfortunately I have to say, I'm disappointed in most of this year's villains. Either they hadn't any personality at all or they went down easily, or both. However, there is a bad boy who never let me down. TEAM PESTILENCE!

FAVORITE SIDEKICK

Oh God, there were soo many awesome side characters this year, it was hard to pick one. Zen, a.k.a Zennyo Ryuo is mystreious, amusing, realist, wise, intriguing and more and more loveable by every book.

FAVORITE PARANORMAL CREATURE

Hell's Angels
Her Demonic Angel
 (Her Angel #5)
Felicity E. Heaton

I always loved angels, but they got a little bit boring so I changed sides and the demons became my favorites. But same happened, I slowly got bored with simple demons too. So I'm more than happy when someone combinates these two creatures. I love Fallen/Demonic Angels. Especially Veiron. Yummy!

BEST ACTION/DRAMATIC SCENE

Genesis Queen (The Road to Hell series #3)
Gracen Miller

This year wasn't the best when it comes to action scenes. Most of them was short or not exciting enough, or the same happened in every book only with different characters. However we got a few heartbreaking dramatic scene. This year, for me the most dramatic scene was in Genesis Queen when someone died. Even though, I wanted to choke this person myself, and even though I knew the outcome of it, this scene almost made me cry. And I don't cry over books dammit! It was a beutifully written breathtaking scene.

BEST SEX SCENE

Bloodright (Blood Moon Rising Trilogy #2)
Karin Tabke

From the first moment Karin introduced Lucien to us I knew that this sexy, lethal alpha lycan will give his best to get the girl. All of the R rated scenes in this book deserves this award! I want myself a Lucien soooo bad!!

FAVORITE ROMANTIC COUPLE

Angel's Pawn (Angel's Flight)
Nalini Singh

Somewhere, somehow it's a bit sad when a novella beats every full-length book I've read this year in this category. The romantic couples weren't so captivating this year. However, Nalini could have wrote a full book for Ashwini and Janvier. These two could be easily my favorite Guild Hunter couple and that says a lot, considering how I love Raphael, Elena and Dmitri and I would give my soul for those two boys...

AUTHOR OF THE YEAR

Larissa Ione

So who can get this award anyway? Someone who mostly not just delivers the expected, but even manages to top it. Someone, who still can surprise me and whose books do not become monotonous. This means usually 4-5 stars. Someone, who if they make any mistake it doesn't really matter because they give me such twist and turns, scenes, stories, characters that my jaw hits the floor every time.
Karen Marie Moning

Someone, who actually interacting their readers and not writing only for the money. With this category I'm gladly break my PICK ONLY ONE rule, because both women are almost perfectly fulfilled my expectations.
(And I'm so sorry this year Frost and Nalini couldn't impress me, still love them, though. Maybe next year ;))

BEST COVER OF 2012

Incarnation
Emma Cornwall

Since i'm a notorious cover-whore, this was the hardest pick. I've seen soooo many incredible cover this year, that it's sacrilege to pick only one. But I have to. So, this is my absolute favorite.

I love everything about this cover. The colors, the setting, not too much, not too little, and the background and the dress beautifully illustrate the steampunk and the font is fine too. I want this book. Or a poster. Better yet... I want both!!

P.S:  Sorry for everyone who expected a good, sexy Paul Marron cover, even I'm surprised that something could beat those. :P

ARC Review ~ Genesis Queen by Gracen Miller

I can fairly say that I am one of the biggest fans of the series out there. And waiting for Genesis Queen was the worst kind of torture I had ever experienced. Those who say lucky me probably never read these books.  It was kind of a bittersweet moment, because even though this answers most of our questions, this is also the last installment of Madison, Micah and Nix's journey. And that's sad. So, after NINE months the wait is OVER, because on december 18th, the spectacular, amazing RTH crew will be back for the Epic showdown! The question is...will it live up the expectations?

Title: Genesis Queen
Author: Gracen Miller
Series: Road To Hell (Book 3)
Publisher: Decadent Publishing
Publish Date: December 18th 2012

****First two books in the series, Pandora's Box and Hell's Phoenix, are MUST reads or you will be terribly confused!!!!****
Victory is hollow when fate maneuvers one as a pawn.

Madison’s mission is complete. Nix is rescued from Hell and her son safe from his dark destiny. But as she rests in the safe harbor of Nix’s love, her demonic husband warns of a murderous plot. Can she trust that it’s the truth and not another scheme to claim her for Hell’s throne?

Sometimes internal conflict can house our biggest demons.

With allies divided and prophecy heralding defeat, Madison gambles on Micah’s tenuous honor to keep their son protected. Torn between her heart’s desires and her dark requirements, Madison worries her hellish fate cannot be avoided. When betrayal comes from an unlikely direction, all their futures may be damned. In the darkest hour of Madison’s life, an undeniable providence will transpire. Who can she trust? And how far will she fall to defeat her foes?

Amid the rubble of defeat, will Hell’s Genesis Queen dawn?

All Roads Lead To Hell Blog Tour: Character Interview with Elias & Giveaway

Hey guys! Today I'm delighted to be helping Gracen Miller celebrate the upcoming release of the third and final installment of Madison's journey in the Road To Hell series and being the co-host of the tour with the firls at Tsk Tsk What to Read. This tour will feature a variety of posts and various blogs with posts ranging from spoiler free reviews, author interviews, guest posts, character interviews and more. Please be sure to follow the entire tour.

ALSO….On Day one (which was yesterday) Gracen kicked off the tour with a fun interactive activity.

Here is what she is doing…(The contest is no longer open, but the game is still fun ;))

--A Day in The Life of Madison is a Choose Your Own Adventure kind of game on Gracen's blog. After reading an excerpt, the reader faces two options, each of which leads to more excerpts and options and then to one of three endings.

The story follows Madison's journey through the series up until the beginning of Genesis Queen. The participants have to live her life, make decisions that will have consequences and determine the main character's actions and the plot's outcome. We’ve set the scene, the rest is up to you
--

On day two, I have a special giveaway AND I've got the chance again to interview the irresistible King of Hell, Elias! He didn't make it easy, though. So, I won't leave you guys hanging anymore. Continue on to read his answers to my nosy interview questions, an excerpt from Genesis Queen and don't forget to enter the giveaways!

Andie: Hey, my sexy, scary King! *winks at him* It’s nice to see you again. How are you doing? It's been quite a while.
Elias: *grins, while reclining in his seat* You’re looking particularly delectable today. What is the name of that perfume you’re wearing?
Andie: Why, thank you. I don’t wear any. This is my natural scent… okay maybe that and my new shower gel. Like it?
Elias: Smells divine.

Andie: I’m guessing we’re in the human realm – precisely my house which is surrounded by angel locks - this time and not in Hell, because your bro is still pretty mad at you after what you did in Genesis Queen?
Elias: *leaps to his feet and snatches Andie out of her chair* Disband the goddamn Angel Locks immediately! *his talons indent the skin of her upper arms as his eyes began to glow with fire*
Andie: *pats Elias’ arm* Easy big boy, I was just testing your awareness. I don’t want anyone to catch you. But You’re going to need to loosen up a bit for this interview. Now, could you let me go? Please!
Elias: *releases Andie long enough to fist her hair* Are you saying there are no Angel Locks and you were just screwing with me? *slides a talon along her cheek as his eyes glint dangerously* I dislike being toyed with. Immensely.
Andie: Well, I wouldn’t phrase it that way. But no, no Angel Locks.
Elias: Wise mortal. *returns Andie to her chair*

Andie: Thank you. Do you miss him? Did you regret anything?
Elias: *settles into his seat once more* It’s unfortunate things had to progress the way they did, but I do not regret my actions. If given the same choice, I’d make the same decision. The fault can be laid at Madison’s feet. *shrugs* Isn’t she always to blame? I won’t pretend to deny I didn’t enjoy—*clears throat* That’s best saved for the book, eh? We’re archangels, we’ve lived millennia. This is not the first quarrel we’ve endured. Micah will come around.

Andie: Damn, I envy you guys. I understand why he is mad, but I still owe you a “Thank You” card or something. You always make things more interesting. Although the majority of readers consider you as purely evil, and hate you now even more. Why do you think is that? Are you seeing yourself as an –not my words– evil son-of-a-bitch?
Elias: I take thank yous in the form of sex or torture, but no cards. *ponders Andie as his talons swish along the arm of the chair* I do not understand his anger. We’d agreed to do anything and he reneged on our deal. He’s lost his edge thanks to that uptight princess of his. *takes a deep calming breath* Why should I care if anyone hates me? Hmm…I guess I am an evil son-of-a-bitch, but Father’s not lifted one hand to halt my behavior, so maybe that makes him a trifle evil as well. What do you think, Andrea?
Andie: I don’t think you will ever understand his reasons, not until you fall in love. I know, I know… it will never happen. Also, I know you don’t care what the others said, I didn’t say you should, I was just curious about how you see yourself. As for your father, I think you have a point.
Elias: As you should see my point.

Andie: Were you ever a double-crosser? *smirks*
Elias: Not to my brothers, but to mortals…I guess you could say I’ve double-crossed many. It’s not my fault they didn’t read the fine print of our covenant.
Andie: Yeah, the small prints…
Elias: The devil is in the details. *winks*

Andie: Uh huh… Just out of curiosity, on a scale of 1-10, how often do you lie?
Elias: Never, so that’d be a zero.
Andie: Now, I can’t stop thinking about how should I know if you’re telling the truth…
Elias: Easy. I always tell the truth.

Andie: *rolls eyes*After everything that happened in GQ, how do you see your future? You weren’t exactly a good guy – not that if you would be anyway, but some would say you overstepped the line this time.
Elias: My future is the same as it always has been. I’m one of the Kings of Hell. That will not alter in the future. I did not overstep the line, but rather I took the hard actions Micah was too pansy-assed to implement. *makes a disgusted face* I should receive a medal or some accommodation.
Andie: That’s what I said. No one listened. *shakes head*

Andie: I’m lobbying for your book, but I’m sure you know that, so please, could you just stop making it even harder for me to convince Gracen and her hellhounds, that you deserve one?
Elias: *flashes a wicked grin* Thank you for lobbying for me. As for Gracen, she will do as she’s told. Dom’s got her well under control.
Andie: I hope so *smiles*
Elias: *nudges his foot against yours* Trust me.

Andie: Do you think redemption is possible for you? Because they say that’s the only way to get you your own book. What would you want to see in it? Can you see a possible romance? *winks*
Elias: Who the hell said I needed redemption? *shakes head and mutters about ‘pretentious, judgmental mortals’* What would I like to see in my book? Hmm…*taps his chin and thinks for a moment* For starters, I’d like to see torture, sex, pain, more torture. I think that’d make for a bestseller. What about you?
Andie: Who said you needed redemption? Like… everyone. What would I like to see? I’m good with what you mentioned, throw a good amount of fight scenes in and we’re good to go. *mutters under her breath really quietly* And maybe a little romance too. But I would be fine with the whole story about this rebellion from your perspective. I just want you to be the lead character.
Elias: No one’s opinion matters but my own. And I say I do not need redeeming. My father was wrong in what he asked of us. Can you imagine being a child forever? Always being told what to do, how to behave, and what your reactions should be? Your opinions, thoughts, and wants never mattering to your parent? Never being adult enough to make your own decisions? That was how Father treated us. Our rebellion is justified. But I digress…*makes a circular motion with his hand for Andie to continue* Proceed with your questions.

Andie: Fine. Most of the readers think you can’t love anyone. I know you do love your twin, more than anyone. Would you actually die for him?
Elias: Love…*snorts* I would die for my brother.
Andie: Isn’t that love?
Elias: *shrugs* Semantics, I suppose. I call it devotion, loyalty and respect. My affections for my brother don’t weaken me the way love does.

Andie: Could you kill your brother?
Elias: Why would I want to? *makes a face* Simple answer is no.
Andie: No, I know you wouldn’t want to. I meant IF for some reason, it would come to a fight (to the death) between you and him, could you be able to deliver the killing blow? Just play along and let’s pretend It could happen.
Elias: *sighs, growing agitated by the repetitious question* I repeat…no. Micah is angry, yes, but regardless what you think, he’d never be able to deliver the killing blow, so, once again, why would I want to kill him?
Andie: Jesus Christ… *notices her mistake when Elias hisses* oops, sorry! I don’t know, it was just a theoretical question, but let’s move on.

Andie: Are you bored, want to torture and/or kill me (you are NOT allowed to do that!), or having fun with this interview? Either way, you still are going to have to answer a few questions. *chuckles*
Elias: *claws gouge the arm of the chair* Don’t get impudent with me, you feeble mortal. The things I could do to you…you’d break quickly. *leans forward and scraps a talon across Andie's forearm, opening up a gash on her skin* Unless you humans are sinning or screaming from my torture, I’m always bored with you. Only when your blood is flowing—*nods at  her arm*—am I amused.
Andie: So, you are amused now. It’s easy, but not really healthy to please you…
Elias: If I were easily amused, what would be the challenge in that?

Andie: You sooo have a point. What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
Elias: Even though I despise the princess, I’d do anything for her, because she’s our future.

Andie: *leans closer to Elias in her chair and whispers* What do you think of Gracen?
Elias: *leans forward, puts his lips to her ear and whispers back* She’s beneath me, why would I give her any thought?
Andie: Because you owe her. But that’s pretty much answered my question.
Elias: *laughs* The only ones I owe are my brothers, Micah, Lucifer and Raguel. No one else deserves such accolades.

Andie: Do you have any secret aspirations she doesn’t know about? I won’t tell her, promise.
Elias: *chucks her beneath the chin and he sits back in his seat* Andrea, darling, my aspirations are no secret. They are the same today as they were when we created Hell. All I want is mankind’s damnation and to remove them from Father’s salvation. I’d say we’re winning the war.
Andie: Aww man, here I thought I’m going to learn something, that not even she knows.

Andie: Is there anything else that you'd like to add before we end?
Elias: *retracts his claws* No.
Andie: Seriously? C’mon say something to your loyal fans.
Elias: *grasps Andie's wrist and holds her arm steady as he licks the blood from the wound he gave her* I’m into blood play. Care to participate?

Andie: I’m not really in the mood of donating blood, but you can continue the licking part, though. Anyway, that’s it. We’re done. It was fun… for me anyway. Thank you again for answering my nosy questions. Meeting with you is always a pleasure…when you can’t hurt me. And you can’t, because If you do, who will hold Gracen back from killing you off? *smirks* Now, go before Zenny finds us and beats the crap out of you. Hey, easy with the “shut up or I’m going to kill you” look. I’m just worried about you, that’s all.
Elias: *chuckles* Do you always ramble this much? Gracen will not kill me because she secretly adores me and Dom won’t allow it. *smirks back* And Zennyo Ryuo—Pfft. Not the threat you seem to think he is. No need to worry, I can handle myself. *pulls Andie out of her seat and settles her on his lap, so that she's straddling his thighs* Where’s my good bye kiss? And make it good enough I’ll be glad I wasted my time with this interview. *slow wicked grin*
Andie: *frowns*You should be at least a tiny bit grateful anyone wants to talk to you these days. Why do I like you again? And man! You and Dom are best buddies or what? I’m surprised a simple kiss could make you happy. And how could anything even make you be glad that you wasted–
Elias: I’m grateful to no one. *nips her bottom lip* Your mouth should be on mine, not moving with more rambling. And I never said a single kiss would suffice. *wraps an arm around her waist, the other hand cupping the back of her head…he pulls Andie snug against his body, so close his breath puffs on her face* I’m waiting…
Andie: * lets out a soft moan as she puts her mouth over * –

"Genesis Queen"
Book 3 in ROAD TO HELL series
Coming December 18, 2012 to Decadent Publishing and online e-book stores

Victory is hollow when fate maneuvers one as a pawn.

Madison’s mission is complete. Nix is rescued from Hell and her son safe from his dark destiny. But in the safe harbor of Nix’s love, her demonic husband warns of a murderous plot. Can she trust that it’s the truth and not another scheme to claim her for Hell’s throne?

Sometimes internal struggles can house our biggest demons.

Amid the rubble of defeat will Hell’s Genesis Queen dawn?

Genesis Queen Excerpt:

Nix located Mads in the kitchen. Bacon sizzled in the frying pan and grits were on a slow boil in a pot on the stove. She beat up a batch of pancake mix; at least he thought that was what she whipped up.
“How can you cook at a time like this?”
She did the most normal things at the weirdest moments.
“I’m not convinced this isn’t one of Micah’s attempts to bring me to heel.” She set the bowl aside and pulled out a griddle. “And cooking soothes me.”
God knew he loved her food. His belly grumbled in agreement. The way she moved as she prepared food was a thing of beauty, too. Watching her calmed him.
He handed over the photo Amos had drawn.
She wiped her hands on a kitchen towel before grasping the picture. After a long moment, she canted her face toward him. “What’s this?”
“Amos had a vision. Went glowy-eyed. That”—he nodded at the paper in her hand—“is the man he says is behind the attack.”
“An angel.” No question. A stated fact. Mads blew out a breath and leaned against the counter behind her. “He and Georgie hadn’t seen before….” She rubbed her eyes. “I thought Micah was lying. Like always.”
“He rarely lies.” The angel was painfully honest more often than not. It hurt to admit that even to himself. He wanted her to think of her husband as an unfeeling monster, but Nix’s relationship with Mads would always be built on honesty.
Her head snapped back. “Don’t defend him.”
“I’m not.” Not really, just stating the truth. He strode around the island and stepped in front of her. “We need him to help protect you both.”
“No.”
“Mads, baby….” He settled his weight against her. She adjusted her stance, widening her stride and granting him space between her thighs. His fingers slid through her hair, as her hands settled on his hips, her thumbs anchoring in his belt-loops. “I want you two as safe as I can get you. If accepting that bastard’s aid is going to keep you breathing, then we need it.”
